Enallagma cyathigerum risi Schmidt, 1961(= Ehallagma risi)
A South Siberian and Central Asian subspecies of a complex Transpalearctic species
Enallagma cyathigerum Charpentier, 1840. This subspecies ranges on plains
from Saratov Province to Chita Province and throughout Central Asia. Its main
diagnostic feature is the shape of the appendages superiores in males and
lamela mesostigmalis in females. However, in more humid mountainous areas protrusing
into the range of risi from the north, all the continuum of transitions to the typical shapes of these structures can
be observed. The famous Siberian odonatologist B. F. Belyshev believed that
southern West Siberia is inhabited by the nominotypical subspecies and so
had a vague idea about what is risi, in fact he dealt almost exclusively
with this taxon.
