Clossiana thore (Huebner, 1806)

This boreal species flies in forest-tundras, taiga and montane coniferous forests of Eurasia. Its wing underside is coloured in the same colours as faded needles and branches of coniferous trees, resting butterflies being invisible on the ground or on trunks. Here an individual is photographed among faded branches of the Siberian dwarf pine (Pinus pumila Ledeb.) in a forest-tundra belt of the Koni Peninsula, S Magadan Region, Russia. 11th of July 1989.
