The Argun'(Hailar) River in its lowest valley, 163 km upstream of its junction with the Shilka River to give rise to the great Amur (Heilongtsang) River. The Argun' divides Russia and China. The mountains behind the Argun', the Tsi Ling Shan Mt. Range, are Chinese and represent the northern extreme of the Great Hingan (Da Hinggan Ling) Mts. Their slopes are covered either with meadow steppes or Dahurian birch (Betula davurica Pall.) groves or Dahurian larch (Larix gmelinii (Rupr.) Rupr.) forests.
